BOONE was released by North Carolina Agricultural Research Service. It is a short awned variety with early maturity and excellent yield potential. Unlike some awned types, this variety has brittle awns and threshes very easily. Boone has medium test weight, and fair straw strength. It has good leaf rust resistance and poor mildew resistance, but has produced good yields even where mildew was a major factor. Boone is susceptible to loose smut.

NOMINI was released by the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station. It is an early maturing, medium tall, high yielding six-row winter barley with compact spikes. It is resistant to powdery mildew, Septoria, and barley yellow dwarf virus. Nomini is moderately susceptible to leaf rust and is not very winter hardy. US PROTECTED VARIETY and can be sold only as a Class of Certified Seed – 1970 PVPA.

PRICE was released by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station. It is a medium maturity, short awned, six row winter barley. Flag leaf is upright. Maturity is three days later and average plant height (34 inches) is two inches taller than Callao. Straw strength and test weight are rated very good. It is resistant to powdery mildew and barley yellow dwarf. It is moderately resistant to leaf rust. US PROTECTED VARIETY and can be sold only as a Class of Certified Seed – 1994 PVPA.
