GERARD 224 is similar to Rodgers in leaf color, stem, and panicle shape but shorter than Rodgers by 5 inches averaging 41 inches tall. It has more stalk strength than Rodgers and heads one day earlier than Rodgers. It has hairy yellow stems with erect, dark green leaves that are smooth on the margins and leaf sheath.
